Exclamation TOR, proxies etc (FindNot, Relakks etc) - 06-22-2007, 02:41 AM

Hi all !

Since several years I use some commercial proxy services for "security", P2P and testing purposes. This services may also help fund our accounts and would like to share my experiences with you.

FindNot

I used http://www.findnot.com/ for a year.

The BIG plus is they have servers all around the world (7 countries or so)

Look here for countries : http://www.findnot.com/servers.html

Service is not so easy to setup for Mac's but will work (I helped make the Mac setup "manual"). I'm a Mac only guy and didn't try a micro$hit () PC but it looks like there are more options for those on the "dark side" ...

Service speed and stability isn't always perfect but once you find the right server it's ok.

There is a new FindNot PRO subscription (not tested) for a hefty US $ 299.-- / year
----------

Relakks

I use https://www.relakks.com/ since a little less than a year and think it's better but they have less options (no socks, only PPTP) but for the majority it's enough.

Stability is MUCH better but you get disconnected every 2 hours or so.

Speed is MUCH better, you can even use Skype (talk) through their proxy's without hearing any difference !

All servers are located in Sweden where the laws are "smart" enough to give some privacy as long as you don't seriously break the county's laws, in other words Relakks can't be forced by authorities to give your IP as long as the "offence you committed" is worth less than 2 years in Swedish prisons ...

Relakks is my recommendation for "only" € 5.-- a month or € 50.-- a year !

Both services work great for P2P (torrents, Gnutella etc)

Never personally tried TOR, I think it's a good system but I prefer to pay a small monthly fee and avoid the not so straight forward setup...

Any comments welcome !

Enjoy

there's also http://www.dold.se/. They started up at the same time as Relakks - but for some reason they don't seem to be concentrating so much on English speaking customers...

Hi bokr,

Welcome in the "Mac only" club

Well, so far I must say I always downloaded my thousands of files in "the good old fashioned way"...

Your question raised my curiosity so I searched versiontracker :

http://www.versiontracker.com/php/qs...-all&submit=Go

I found this : http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22616

and this : http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/29814

I will try some and let you know my feelings about them.

Regards

I know this probably violates your religion, but can't you run windows under emulation on a Mac? Surely that would be good enough to run alltunes?

Ok, lets get serious.

Well yes, I could, but I still use an "old" dual G5 (PPC) and no MacIntel, this means I should install the "dark side's" virtualPC (not even sure it's ok for G5's).

My next machine will be a MacIntel on witch I will be able to boot and / or virtualize and do anything PC... Even so I'm not so sure I will try this "dark side" stuff... Just helped a PC friend today and ... well, one hour on such a messy OS and I'm

Must say so far I'm fine downloading the "good old fashioned way" but I'm sure there is a way of making this process easier / faster.

I had no time yet to try out the possible solutions I posted above but will do it soon and let you know.
