I see that there are serious proposals here in the UK to remove internet access from those they catch downloading stuff they don't approve of:

Frankly, I don't see how this has a hope in hell of catching anyone with half a brain? But it might help if our favourite online stores were ready!
To me the key thing is how on earth they intend to identify what is being transferred. It would be hard enough to identify even if everything was sent completely openly.
But what could they do if (for example) our music stores send the files over HTTPS, a secure connection? Or come to that, in a simple ZIP or RAR archive with a password applied?
The only thing I can think of is if they just latch only the address of known sources they don't like, but that would seem to do nothing about P2P networks, which I would guess are their prime target. And then there's stuff distributed via USENET which seems to be completely under their radar at the moment...
Anyway, I hope that all you guys who provide us with suchgreat value are planning ahead for this stuff!
