I can't believe there is still no way to add funs to our accounts. I wonder if these guys decided to call it quits.

I wouldn`t be so hasty as to say that. There is obviously still activity going on at the site as new albums are being added every day.

AllOfmp3/Sparks have surprised us before and re-emerged from the ashes so they could yet find a way around their current funding issues.

I certainly wouldn`t write them off yet

lossless formats - 04-04-2008, 11:35 PM

Although I never compared the sound quality of mp3sparks' lossless music files to their lossy counterparts, lossless was my preferred format. I don't know where to go on the internet for lossless music files without mp3sparks.

I really don't understand why the recording industry has shunned making high-quality music files available of their artists. You'd think that they would try to get out in front of this and lead the way towards an ideal internet distribution model. As it is, they've lost ALL control. Personally, I haven't experienced the downside to DRM. However, I really do not want lossy music, and I can't be alone in my preferences.

For now, I'm purchasing CDs again as it's where music quality and DRM are non-issues. It makes me feel like I'm back in the last decade. But oh well, 90's music was pretty good,... it's the 80's music that really sucks.

I think if you think you won't have any DRM issues with CDs from the 90's, you might be in for a bit of a shock with some of them,
Cheers,

Yeah,... I don't doubt you on the copy protection applied to what are otherwise seemingly innocuous albums. It's either that the record labels pursued more vigorous DRM schemes in the UK (?), or I just buy music that nobody feels the need to protect. Engelbert Humperdinck, anyone?.. anyone?

There's just a lot of people in denial on this forum (including me!), and I suppose I have to console myself with what appears to be the most rational alternative to mp3sparks. Let's see,... first there's denial, then anger followed by bargaining, depression and finally, acceptance.

The recording industry is stuck in the past and refuses to accept the reality that their business and distribution models are outmoded and on the verge of extinction.

The recording industry is a dinosaur, too large to change quickly. Maybe they think that to adopt a similar method to sparks (re: lossless audio options) would be to admit defeat. They prefer to bully and harass us all and then act magnanimous about not prosecuting those who break the law by ripping their own CDs
