Question MM/Sparks Assistance & Surrealism - 01-18-2008, 05:40 PM

Hi Friends

Before to apply my MM credit I wanted to know if there will be any chance to pay in the future (I don't want the two guys knocking at my door on a rainy night). So, I'm a bit naive and I've decide to leave this message to assistance:

I would apply my MM credit, but it seems that the payment's options aren't available and I have doubts about that payment will be possible in the future. Thanks again!

And here is their answer:

MemphisMembers.com support reply:
ok

Well... as elusive as usual. But the best of all (the surrealist part) is that my balance has increased from 0.09 $ to 0.51 $!!

I wonder if I leave the same message again my balance will increased another 0.42 $. Two messages more and I will be able to download a whole album!!

OK... I've decided to open a new account in mp3fiesta, that is one of the three Rutunes' recommendations, and forget Sparks for a while.

I am just wondering how to re-intrepret that surreal "OK" response in my own situation, where I have credit already.... If I wrote Assistance and asked "will two guys be knocking on my door on a rainy day?", do you think the answer would be "OK" as well? Demzel in much distress here !!

I think there are two possible answers:

1) "OK", and then you better run away

2) "this option is not available to you at this moment.", and then you don't have to worry

I think this is actually social realism, rather than surrealism.

Hi Kalvin

Congratulations on reaching your 300th post just a few hours before chris7 (presumably) reaches the same mile stone over in the brownie thread

I copied your message and sent it to MemphisMembers Assistance eight times in rapid succession with eight OK's as the result. Well, eight OK's and $3.36 more to spend added to my balance

Wait, you're joking right? Otherwise that has to mean they have a computer answering emails.

Well, I was joking - but it does sometimes seem like they have a computer answering most of our questions - randomly choosing its answers

Maybe the reply was 'OK' because your text was not obviously a question. Assistance's knowledge of the English language is questionable to say the least. They saw no question mark and a "thanks", so they probably thought it was just some kind of "thanks for the services". Try asking another question without a question mark and put "thanks" at the end, and you'll probably get another OK

All of this reminds me of an "Eliza - computer psychiatrist" program that is a common exercise to do in college introductory Computer Science classes. I certainly had to. This lovely Miss Doolittle carries on an active conversation with a user, by finding some keywords in what you say, and responding with one of its canned phrases. It generally takes just a couple of exchanges to figure out you aren't talking to a real being.

> Hi
> OK
> My mother isn't able to download from Mp3sparks
> Do you want to talk about your mother today?
> Yes
> Please tell me more
> My mother can't make a payment on mp3sparks
> are you saying your mother isn't able to make a payment on mp3sparks?
> Yes. you are stupid
> Don't use that sort of language with me!

Sounds familiar?

Hehehe ... and then to think that I even tried making things easy for them by asking them:

Сколько времени оно примет? (How long will it take?)

MemphisMembers.com support reply:
Please, explain your problem more exactly in english.
