server certificate signer cannot be verified - 09-08-2007, 03:23 AM

I was going to add money with a credit card, and I got the message about the sever certificate signer can't be verified.
Was using Opera.
Using Firefox,I got the same message.
What's going on with this?Anyone else see this?
Until I can verify the status of a secure site,I'm not proceeding any further.

- The certificate for "secure.e-centru.com" is signed by the unknown Certificate Authority "Network Solutions Certificate Authority". It is not possible to verify that this is a valid certificate
- The certificate for "" is signed by the unknown Certificate Authority "". It is not possible to verify that this is a valid certificate

Hello rolly... you are wise to wait for some help in this area ..I had
certificate problems in the past..a area I would like to learn more about my self..but I tried to proceed on my own one time, and got locked out of a site
and was a hassle to get back in..I'm sure there are knowledgeable people
here that will be able to give you some help.

Hi rolly.

Are your computer's time settings up to date (meaning: does your computer show the correct date and year)?

If you're using Windows XP, try going to Windows Update>Custom>Software, Optional. If you see Root Certificates Update (KB931125), install it. For other operating systems, take the appropriate steps to update the certificate list on your computer.

My box does show 1 hour fast.I never look at the time on my computer screen,a clock right in front of me.So I wasn't concerned with setting it to the correct time.
Why could this matter?

Where can you find a verified updated list?

I have had some minor difficulties with certificates in the past, when my time settings weren't correct - maybe this could be a factor in your difficulties too.

I was just about to suggest updating your browsers... I'm not a linux user and I'm afraid I have no other suggestions.

I recieved a response from assistance.
They said they know about the problem, and it will be fixed in 2-3 weeks.
So that is good news, and now,I know my browsers are/have always been reporting correctly.
I am still curious as to why nobody else has seen this problem.

Hi rolly

I'm not convinced by the answer from Assistance.

This issue was reported by carabao in a post here in June http://www.aom3.org/forum/funding-yo....html#post5338 . Most people use Windows; for a default Windows configuration, the root certificate list is automatically updated through Windows Update. For Windows users with Automatic Update disabled, the problem was fixed by the Root Certificate Update in August. Win98/IE6 still gives a warning. I guess the problem you're having is a Linux issue, you could check if an update is available for your distro. Fact is, the certificate is valid (click on the logo at https://secure.e-centru.com/ ); most people just ignore these warnings anyway.
