a moderator is an 'official' post in a forum. the more he is liked, the more
'official' he becomes. so if he/she for whatever reason decides to vanish, it
might have been proper and polite to give a bit of a warning and maybe a
cyber-space fitting excuse.
i am the last one to say he/she does not have every right to do as they please,
but a community as this one is not one-sided. it also brings some obligations.

Hi henry66
Solaris has contributed a huge amount to this forum for more than a year, with a level of commitment that is just not sustainable in the long term without a break. For me at least, he has earned the right to do whatever he wants, however he wants, and earned it a hundred times over. And that includes having his life back.
When I 'left' the forum a few months ago, the fact that I didn't say anything (at least, not in public

) about my reasons made it much easier for me to return when I was ready. For me, the absence of an announcement from Solaris is actually a good sign; he's keeping his options open.
I see no reason to think that Solaris isn't still working as a Moderator here - being such an orderly and good-natured place, it doesn't need a lot of visible moderation. As Amy.Dre said last night, you can see which members are currently logged in from the Quick Links menu (you can also see this at the bottom of the front page of the forum without logging in). What she didn't mention is that you can see the total as well, including those who are wearing their invisibility cloaks. Who the invisible folk are, and why they are watching over the forum, you must decide for yourself.
